Service

Make distance work for you.

A distributed team can move faster than one in a single office, if it’s built for it. We help you design the system that makes it work.

Remote-first operations is a service from Regenerate Capital, a venture studio in Québec’s Eastern Townships. It helps startup founders run distributed teams well: an async working cadence, a clear tool stack, written documentation, and rituals that keep culture and trust alive across time zones. The result is a team that ships without everyone online at once.

What’s included

What the service includes.

01

An async operating cadence

Which updates are written, which meetings stay, and the rhythm that ties them together each week.

02

A clear tool stack

One place for each kind of work: chat, documents, tasks and decisions, with rules for what goes where.

03

A written company handbook

How you work, how decisions get made and where to find things, kept current and easy to search.

04

Time zone design

Overlap hours, handoff rules and on-call norms that fit where your people actually live.

05

Remote hiring and onboarding

How to assess people you’ll never meet in person, and how to welcome them from afar.

06

Culture and connection rituals

Lightweight habits and occasional in-person time that keep trust high without filling calendars.

Sound familiar?

Do you have these problems?

  • Your calendar is full of video calls, and deep work only happens at night.
  • Decisions live in chat threads, so nobody can find them a week later.
  • People in other time zones wait a full day for answers.
  • New hires feel lost for weeks because nothing is written down.
  • You can’t tell who’s overloaded and who’s disengaged until someone quits.
  • Your team feels like a group of freelancers, not a company.

Our approach

How we solve them.

01

Audit how work flows

We map your meetings, channels and tools, and find where information gets stuck or lost. Then we decide which meetings earn their place.

02

Set the async defaults

We agree on what gets written, what gets discussed live and how fast people should expect replies. Then we put it in the handbook.

03

Simplify the stack

We cut overlapping tools and give each one a clear job, so people stop hunting for the latest version.

04

Design the weekly rhythm

Written updates, one focused team meeting and regular one-on-ones, tuned to your time zones.

05

Keep the culture human

We plan rituals and occasional in-person time that build trust, and we check in after a few weeks to adjust.

Track record

How we’ve solved it before.

Drawn from our founder’s past roles and companies. Past results don’t guarantee future outcomes.

01

120 people, fully remote

As co-founder and COO of MLG Blockchain, our founder helped grow a fully remote team from 4 to 120 people in 9 months, with zero external funding.

02

Remote work as a product

Our founder co-founded Remote Work Villas, which runs remote-work retreats for founders, investors and operators.

Do it yourself

Resources to solve it yourself.

Start this week

  • Pick one recurring meeting this week and replace it with a short written update. See if anyone misses it.
  • Start a single page called “How we work” and write down your three most important norms.
  • Agree on a reply-time expectation for chat and one for email, and share it with the team.
  • Ask each person what time of day they do their best focused work, and protect it.

Questions

Straight answers.

Does remote-first mean no office at all?

Not necessarily. Remote-first means the company is designed so remote people are never second-class. You can still keep an office or meet in person regularly.

We already work remotely. What would change?

Usually less time in meetings, more written decisions and clearer ownership. We start from how your team works today and change only what’s causing friction.

How do you charge for this?

Terms are flexible and shaped around your startup: equity, cash, commission, in-kind or a mix. We agree on them in writing before any work starts.
