Step 04 / 08 · Build the smallest thing that works
Your first product is a learning instrument. Build the narrowest version that delivers the core outcome, put it in real hands, and improve it every week.
Why it matters
A minimum viable product is not a worse product. It is a more focused one: one job done well for one customer, in market fast enough for the market to teach you what comes next.
The cost of building has collapsed. With AI coding tools, managed infrastructure and AI agents, a team of three can now ship and operate what once needed fifteen. The bottleneck is judgement about what not to build.
How to do it
List every feature, then remove everything that doesn’t deliver the outcome customers paid for in step three.

Set a date, ship on it, and put the product in front of paying or committed customers.
Know who uses what, how often, and where they drop off. Decide what “working” means before you ship.
